Description:  Pewter pendant featuring the engraved Nauthiz rune, made for us by St Justin in Cornwall (UK). The alloy, 92% tin completed with copper and antimony, gives it strength. It comes with a 68 cm waxed leather cord with an adjustable sliding double knot, along with the official box and an explanatory certificate (in English). It belongs to the oldest runic series, the 24 Norse letters used by the ancient Vikings both for writing and for divination. The traditional meaning of Nauthiz is "need", and its shape resembles two sticks rubbed together to light a fire. Just as fire is a necessary element for survival, it is also an element of destruction when not properly controlled. Nauthiz governs Nifelhel, the realm of the dragon Nidhogg, whose name means "he who gnaws from within". Psychologically, Nauthiz represents the shadow of the unconscious that devours our sense of self. It is where our fears and dread of being defeated reside. If left unchecked, fears will keep you from doing constructive things. This can take the form of a constriction of your creativity, or in your relationships with others. Nauthiz often indicates an uncomfortable delay, or going through a difficult situation. It advises having patience and identifying the source of the need, is it an emotional need arising from fear of failure? Or is it material, such as the need for money? Favourable outcomes cannot be foreseen until the need has been carefully examined. If Nauthiz appears in response to a question calling for action, it warns you to postpone your plans, you may be doing the wrong thing, and moving forward now could lead to failure, despair, and a rather likely disaster. Receiving Nauthiz asks you to look beneath the surface, confront your fears, and examine your motives. Nauthiz is only received upright.
